HEAVENLY GIFT
-Gifts from Outer Space-

2024.11.8 (Fri.) - 2024.12.25 (Wed.)

On the theme of heavenly and its two meanings of from heaven and extraordinary, we set aside the everyday and celebrate Christmas by giving thanks for the everyday we find irreplaceable. The diverse collage visuals created by graphic artist Keiji Ito put you on cloud nine just in time for Christmas. The entrance, indoor escalators, skating rink and other areas shine in the unearthly glow of Keiji Ito’s world.

Comments from the Artist

Christmas shines a special light on the everyday, changing the ordinary into the celebratory. According to a legend from Ancient Europe, at this time of the year, when the sun weakens and the winter’s dark kingdom extends its reach, the souls of the dead come to visit this world. Presents are prepared and arranged in welcome. This custom is said to be the original reason for Christmas. This artwork commission was literally a heavenly gift to me. I worked on it in the dreamy exultation as if I were embraced with Christmas decorations I would enjoy as a child. I hope all those who see my work will experience some of this sense of excitement.

BIG CAT GIFT

2024.11.8 (Fri.) - 2024.12.25 (Wed.)

The latest work by Kenji Yanobe, who made Big Cat Bang, the symbol of the building displayed in the central atrium, appears in the entrance alongside graphics by Keiji Ito. Ship’s Cat, which brings peace, prays for the happiness of people coming and going along the streets of Ginza by delivering them gifts from outer space.

Artist’s Statement

The cats winging away from Big Cat Bang, the building installation, seek to bring peace to the world. They dress up like Santa and his reindeer and alight on a snow-covered landscape. I created the work with the idea of delivering the gift of happiness from outer space, of kindling a light in everyone’s hearts.

WINTER ANGEL

2024.11.16 (Sat.) - 2025.1.26 (Sun.)

The skating rink returns this year to the water basin area and lawn area (approx. 320 m2) of the GINZA SIX Garden, the largest (4,000 m2) in the Ginza area.
In the middle of the rink is the latest giant work from Kenji Yanobe, Ship’s Cat (Ultra Muse/Red). Alongside the heavenly graphics from Keiji Ito, this space prompts one to consider gifts from the heavens beyond. In December, the Heavenly Gift Shop will open with original merchandise supervised by Keiji Ito and the latest merchandise from Kenji Yanobe, a selection of items found nowhere else. To encourage local residents to try out the skating rink, we plan to provide skating lessons for the students of nearby elementary schools and hold other events in coordination with the community. The eco-rink is made of resin, and uses no electricity. Even better, your clothes stay dry even if you fall. It’s also an ideal skating rink for kids. This winter, you’re warmly invited to come and explore unique experiences on offer only at GINZA SIX.

Artist’s Comments For the installation entitled “Winter Angel,” I wanted to create a delightful space, full of love, where people can gather and turn their thoughts to the heavens, guided by a Ship’s Cat (Ultra Muse/Red) featuring an angel’s wings.
